Date Idea in Raleigh # 3: Sitti Restaurant
This week we are continuing to talk about unique and fun dating ideas in Raleigh and the Triangle Area in the general. And if you despise the heat a much as I do nowadays (we are at the end of June), you probably do not want to leave your house and go anywhere unless it absolutely involves an AC and an cold beer. Seriously, June has been so ridiculously hot with all these heat warning temperatures limiting people to pretty much stay indoors. I can’t even bring myself to take my dog Harper to the dog park nearby because it’s freaking hard to breath, even in the shadow. And my husband, who regularly takes her for 5 mile runs, prefers to go to the gym to avoid passing out on the street. Poor Harpie has been sleeping and eating all day every day for the past 6 days with very short walks around the neighborhood at 11pm (when the weather is a little bit cooler, but not really). Using the community pool after the sun sets has been the only refuge for us in the past month. It’s so refreshing! Oh, and hanging out at the bowling alley in North Hills called “Kings Bowl.” It’s a really cool and stylish place to come bowl with friends and play some other social games as well. They even have private bowling area and their food is pretty decent for a bowling bar. They are a bit overpriced, in my opinion, but they have a strong blasting AC, which is what matters most during Raleigh summers, right?:)However, this week we are not talking about the bowling alley, even though it’s a cool place as well.Instead, I would really love to discuss one of my favorite restaurants in Raleigh. It’s called Sitti and is an incredibly authentic Lebanese restaurant located in Downton Raleigh (on Wilmington Street). The word “sitti” means a grandmother in Lebanese, who is considered to be the most important and beloved figure in any Lebanese family. This restaurant was found by two families who wanted to create a sacred place as a tribute to their grandmothers who were the teachers and the caretakers of the Lebanese culture, faith, and food. And let me tell you-these families succeeded and overpassed all expectations. My husband and I decided to explore Sitti for my birthday in march this year and everything was really delicious. And when I say delicious, I actually mean it. The thing is-I am kinda picky about my food even though I deny it. You can ask my husband who has recently complained that every time we dine in a new restaurant, I say “It was okay” when he asks how was food. Well, just because I am honest and unless the food blows my mind(or my taste buds), I am not going to sugar code it and lie.Besides their great food (and their homemade pita bread is fluffy, hot, and amazing), the restaurant offers unique atmosphere, which is not fancy, but has more of a “homie” feeling to it. There are several rooms (and a back outdoor patio), and some rooms have my beloved brick walls. Not sure what it’s about, but both my husband and myself have been in love with brick walls for a long time now. They just look so vintage, and hippie, and totally bohemian.
Bonus Tip:
If you enjoy Lebanese food (or Mediterranean food in general), you would also love Taverna Agora. It’s a greek restaurant with a gorgeous outside sitting for those lovely Spring and Fall days in downtown Raleigh. Check them out.
